All good, ancient apple varieties come with a tale of their discovery, but in the case of Newton Wonder, there are two. One story goes that the innkeeper of the Hardinge Arms in the town of King’s Newton spotted a sapling growing through the thatch of his inn during the 1860s and planted it in his garden. Another says it was raised by Mr Taylor of King’s Newton, as a cross between Dumelow’s Seedling (Wellington) and Blenheim Orange. Whatever its origin, Newton Wonder produces a beautifully balanced, medium juice fit for a king, an innkeeper or a tailor.
